David Sands, owner, has over 21 years of experience in computer programming. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering, specializing in Information Systems, from the University of Tennessee. David has developed software on large main-frame computers, such as the IBM 3090, as well as mid-range IBM AS/400s. After spending quite a few years developing mission-critical software for local area networks, David has now gained expertise in developing web-based software.

The Portal Flare name was inspired by the image at the top right of our web pages. It is an image of our Sun, recorded in 1997 by the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) using their onboard Extreme ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (EIT) instrument package. SOHO is a joint mission between NASA and ESA (European Space Agency).
